Noma
January 1, 2011
If you are like us, you probably think nothing is more blissful than a beautiful book that transports you to new places, with images or stories that provide abundant inspiration.
One such book on our shelf at the moment is the tome put out by Noma, the danish restaurant that has been on everyone’s lips thanks to its unusual and meticulous approach to food and its presentation.
If you look through the book I think you’ll agree that the images read much more like incredible still life photographs rather than your typical cookbook.
To hear the story behind the restaurant as told by owner Rene Redzepi, have a look at this video produced by the publisher, Phaidon. For keen cooks, there is a second video which also gives a step by step explanation to the signature dish ‘the hen and the egg’.
Aesop
December 27, 2010
We love the Australian cosmetics brand, Aesop and all the wonderful things that they stand for. It is so lovely to open a jar of their product and feel as if you have your stuck your nose in bush of lavender/rosemary/sage/geranium!
Obviously we’re not the only ones and it is wonderful to see so many Aesop shops popping up all over the world.
The latest one we have just seen is the Japanese store in Aoyama and would definitely be a must see if you are ever in this interesting part of the world..
p.s. if you are not familiar with Aesop find out all you need to know here. Their newsletter sent out monthly is always a highlight for us, but you can equally read it via their site.

Nigel Slater and Brandy Butter
December 19, 2010
This week the shop will pulsating with the freshest summer flowers in readiness for your Christmas celebrations. We are excited to see it all unfold and look forward to the end of the week when we can all catch up with our families.
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a good Brandy Butter to accompany the pudding and we have found this recipe from the English cook, Nigel Slater. His later book, Tender Vol II has just arrived in Australia and is the fruit-focused sequel to vegetable recipe based Tender Vol I.
Christmas
December 16, 2010
It’s the final countdown until Christmas and here are a few things on our mind…
For the last minute Christmas wrapping we’re looking to Little Branch for some beautiful papers. The peony rose is perfect as they are in season right now.
We have found the comprehensive list of Christmas biscuits on 101 Cookbooks, plus lots of other inspiration for other holiday cooking.
Our soundtrack at the moment is CocoRosie and we are thrilled that they will play at the Sydney Opera House in January.
And for a step back in time, a visit to the Entombed Warriors at the Art Gallery of NSW is in order, plus a great opportunity to escape the Sydney heat!
